Aflaj agreements worth RO 3.4m signed in Al Sharqiyah North

IBRA: Represented by the Directorate-General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources signed agreements worth more than RO 3.4 million to implement the second stage of aflaj maintenance in the governorate, which recently suffered the impacts of 'Al Massarat' low pressure.
The signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Mahmoud bin Yahya al Thuhli, Governor of Al Sharqiyah North.
The agreements provide for the restoration of 155 aflaj. The maintenance tasks include the removal of silt, sand and debris from the damaged aflaj, the replacement of roofing for some aflaj and the construction of new supply channels where deemed necessary.
'Al Massarat' depression had a heavy toll on the system of aflaj across the wilayats of the governorate. The aflaj scheduled for restoration in the second stage constitute 36 per cent of the total active number of aflaj in the governorate. - ONA
