Omani state-backed integrated clean energy platform O-Green is rapidly expanding into AI-ready computing infrastructure, targeting more than 200 MW of data centre capacity across Oman and other international markets by 2028.
The move adds a significant new dimension to O-Green’s diversifying portfolio, positioning data centres and high-performance computing as a downstream extension of its growing presence in renewable power generation and energy storage.
“O-Green is developing AI-ready data-centre projects across Oman, Spain and other markets, with more than 200 MW targeted to be ready for service by 2028,” the company said in a recent update.
The strategy seeks to capitalise on one of the biggest challenges confronting the global expansion of artificial intelligence: securing large volumes of reliable and increasingly low-carbon electricity to power energy-intensive data centres.
O-Green’s proposition is underpinned by an expanding clean-energy portfolio encompassing solar photovoltaic and wind generation as well as battery energy storage systems (BESS). The platform says its development portfolio exceeds 11 GW across 12 countries, giving it a potentially significant clean-power foundation on which to develop AI, cloud and hyperscale computing infrastructure.
In Oman, that model is particularly evident in O-Green’s planned 2.7 GW Continuous Renewable Energy project spanning Duqm and Mahout. Combining solar, wind and battery storage, the project is designed to provide around 770 MW of firm renewable power, with data centres and advanced computing among the energy-intensive industries identified as potential beneficiaries.
By combining complementary solar and wind generation with large-scale battery storage, O-Green aims to overcome the intermittency traditionally associated with renewable electricity and provide the dependable power supply required by always-on computing infrastructure.
Its broader Omani portfolio also includes solar capacity at Suhar Industrial City and wind development at Duqm, alongside plans to establish renewable-energy technology manufacturing capabilities.
The emerging data centre strategy therefore points to a vertically integrated model in which O-Green’s competitive advantage extends beyond developing computing facilities themselves. Access to renewable generation, storage, land and supporting infrastructure could enable the group to offer increasingly integrated clean-energy and compute solutions.
The push also aligns with Oman’s ambition to develop a domestic ecosystem around green data centres, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing and advanced digital infrastructure.
