11,172 labour violations recorded, RO3.2m in fines collected: MoL

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour recorded 11,172 labour market violations, as part of efforts to monitor compliance with labour regulations and protect the business environment.

The violations included 4,859 cases involving the employment of non-Omani workers who were not licenced to work for the employing party, making it the highest category recorded.

This was followed by 1,952 cases of workers leaving employment with an authorised employer, while 1,117 cases involved employing non-Omani workers in Omanised occupations.

The ministry also recorded 1,098 cases involving non-Omani workers working for their own account, 962 cases related to failure to return a worker home or transfer their services within 60 days of contract expiry, and 786 cases involving the employment of non-Omani workers without a work permit.

Other violations included 234 cases of employing non-Omani workers outside their licensed occupation with the employer and 164 other violations.

The ministry collected RO3.245 million in fines, while 4,652 cases were referred to the Public Prosecution.

The figures reflect the ministry’s continued efforts to regulate the labour market, enhance compliance and safeguard the rights of workers and employers.
