Several merchant vessels hit in Gulf: UKMTO

DUBAI: ​Several ​merchant vessels in the northern Gulf were ‌hit by ​disabling fire ⁠during ​military activity in ‌the ​region, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) ‌said on ​Wednesday.
UKMTO ​said ‌it was ⁠unable to ​confirm any ⁠casualties or environmental ​impact and authorities are aware and relevant investigations remain ongoing.

Mariners are advised to consider the latest maritime security information and maintain awareness of the evolving operational environment.

A ​vessel ​was seen listing on Wednesday at anchor ⁠24 nautical ⁠miles northwest of Port ‌Rashid in the ​United ⁠Arab Emirates, ​possibly indicating ‌water ​ingress after being hit by a projectile, the United ‌Kingdom ​Maritime Trade Operations ​said. 
UKMTO ‌said the ⁠incident was reported ​by a ⁠third ​party.

Earlier, the US military says it destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers following Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) ballistic missile attacks on a US Navy warship.

In response, IRGC said its forces targeted two American vessels and eight oil tankers, along with 10 additional “violating ships” accused of attempting to pass a “prohibited and unsafe zone” in the Strait of Hormuz.
