Shura participates in Gulf seminar

MUSCAT: The Majlis Ash’shura participated via videoconferencing in the joint Gulf seminar for legislative councils of the GCC.
The event, organised by the Council of Representatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain in cooperation with the GCC Secretariat-General, discussed commonalities and exchanged parliamentary expertise. It aims to highlight the role of legislative councils in supporting joint Gulf action and developing legislation across various sectors.
On the sidelines of participating in the seminar, Dr Abdulaziz bin Rashid al Hashmi, member of the Council, presented a working paper titled 'The Gulf Digital Economy: Legislation, Development of Technological Infrastructure, Enhancing GDP Contribution, Stimulating Investments, and the Safety of Digital Society', addressing the main challenges facing legislative councils in regulating the Gulf digital economy, as well as the plans, strategies, and legislative system related to the digital economy in the Sultanate of Oman.
The working paper presented by the Majlis Ash’shura forms a strategic road map for empowering the Gulf digital economy through unifying legislation among GCC states. It also highlights the Sultanate of Oman's integrated trajectory, starting from digital transformation initiatives and the issuance of modern legislation such as the Data Law and the establishment of the Investment Court, through to the targets of Oman Vision 2040 and artificial intelligence.
The paper reviewed the Council's oversight and legislative efforts in preventing digital monopoly and monitoring national indicators to enhance investment attractiveness. It concluded by affirming the importance of preparing a unified Gulf legislative framework and establishing a joint coordination committee to ensure sustainable growth and the safety of the digital society. - ONA
