Oman showcases cultural heritage at Baghdad Intl Book Fair

BAGHDAD: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Oman Cultural Memory Center and the House of Antiquities, is participating in the Baghdad International Book Fair 2026, held in the Iraqi capital until September 12.
Oman’s participation reflects the longstanding historical and cultural ties between Oman and Iraq, as well as their shared intellectual and human heritage.
The Omani pavilion features a selection of books and publications covering Oman’s culture, history, literature and thought. It also highlights cultural initiatives and projects aimed at preserving Oman’s national heritage and promoting it across the Arab cultural landscape.
The Oman Cultural Memory Center is showcasing its efforts to document and preserve national memory, including historical sources, documents and artefacts that shed light on Oman’s civilisational and cultural development.
A special Omani-Iraqi Memory Panel features documents highlighting personalities who contributed to the historical links between the two countries, including Imam Jabir bin Zaid, Al Khalil bin Ahmed al Farahidi, Imam Al Rabi’ bin Habib al Farahidi, Abu Al Abbas Muhammad bin Zaid al Mubarrad and Ibn Duraid.
The panel also includes a poem by Sayyid Badr bin Hilal al Busaidi marking the arrival of the first Omani student delegation from Iraq in 1383 AH, along with other documents tracing Oman-Iraq relations.
The participation provides an opportunity for Omani institutions to strengthen cultural ties with Arab and international counterparts and exchange expertise in publishing, documentation, heritage preservation and national memory.
It also offers a platform to introduce Omani cultural and literary output to readers, intellectuals and researchers attending the fair.
The Baghdad International Book Fair features a diverse cultural programme, including exhibitions of recent literary and intellectual publications, alongside events promoting cultural dialogue and knowledge exchange. – ONA
