MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has warned the public against a false announcement circulating through text messages that claims recipients have unpaid traffic fines and urges them to make payment within 12 hours to avoid possible legal action.
The police said such messages are being used for electronic fraud and advised the public not to click on links or visit unofficial websites included in the messages. The notice features a suspicious payment link and falsely presents the message as a traffic-fine notification.
The ROP urged members of the public to verify information through its official channels and to report any suspicious messages or links to the police. Residents are also advised to avoid sharing personal or banking information in response to unsolicited messages.
