SalamAir launches direct flights to Mogadishu

Muscat: SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, has launched its first direct flights to Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, establishing a new air link between the two countries.

The airline will operate two weekly flights on the new route, with fares starting at OMR 79.99 one way. The service provides passengers with a direct and competitively priced travel option, while also offering connections through Muscat to selected destinations across SalamAir’s network in the Middle East and Asia.

The new route is also expected to support business travel, trade and cooperation between private-sector institutions in Oman and Somalia.

Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital and main commercial centre, is an important gateway to East Africa. Its addition to SalamAir’s network is expected to support business and family travel, while contributing to increased trade and stronger economic ties between the two countries.

In a statement, Stephen Allen, Chief Commercial Officer at SalamAir, said the launch of direct flights to Mogadishu marked a strategic step in the airline’s expansion across Africa and strengthened its presence in East Africa.

He said the new route responded to growing demand for affordable direct travel options while supporting business and trade links between Oman and Somalia. He added that the service would allow passengers to connect conveniently through Muscat to several destinations across SalamAir’s network and contribute to Oman Vision 2040 by strengthening the Sultanate of Oman’s international air connectivity and supporting economic diversification.
