Al Sharqiyah South trains officials on energy transition

SUR: Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Oman Energy Institute, organised on Sunday a training programme on ‘New Energy’ to strengthen institutional readiness and enhance government officials’ understanding of the transformation taking place in the energy sector.
The programme aimed to raise institutional awareness of emerging energy trends and equip administrative and leadership cadres to respond effectively to the changing energy landscape, with a focus on transforming challenges into opportunities for investment, innovation, economic growth and diversification.
The programme covered key developments shaping the future of energy, including emerging trends, opportunities arising from different energy mixes, drivers of the energy transition, energy efficiency and emissions reduction.
It also examined the evolving role of the oil and gas sector amid global energy shifts and the opportunities the energy transition could create for Oman.
Discussions highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional capabilities and developing leadership skills to enable government entities to anticipate global developments and translate them into practical development and investment opportunities.
The initiative forms part of Al Sharqiyah South Governorate’s efforts to build institutional capacity and enhance the readiness of its workforce to respond to emerging economic and technological trends. It also supports the governorate’s broader development agenda and aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, particularly priorities related to governorate development and sustainable cities.
The programme underscored the importance of cooperation between government institutions and specialised energy organisations in raising awareness of opportunities arising from the energy transition and ensuring that local development initiatives support Oman’s long-term economic and sustainability priorities.
