Omani pro wrestlers make history with team title in Qatar

Muscat: First Omani professional wrestler Anas Rex and his partner Shathan al Balushi (Sam X) have made history by capturing the QPW Tag Team Championship in Qatar on Friday night. This was the first time Omani wrestlers have won a professional wrestling championship outside the Sultanate of Oman.
“This victory means a lot to me, both personally and professionally. I’ve been wrestling professionally for four years now, and winning the QPW Tag Team Championship is without a doubt the biggest milestone of my career so far. To capture officially sanctioned championship gold from QPW in Qatar, a promotion whose championships have previously been held by major WWE stars such as Carlito and Chris Masters, makes this achievement even more special,” Anas al Riyami (Anas Rex) told Oman Observer after winning the crown in Doha with Shadhan bin Ahmed al Balushi (Sam X).
The historic victory of their ‘Omani Daggers’ team sees the two Omanis crowned as champions on an international stage, representing a significant milestone for professional wrestling in the country. Their achievement not only adds a major championship to their careers, but also establishes a landmark moment for Omani wrestling, as two Omani athletes have successfully competed at the highest level and claimed championship gold beyond their national borders.
“The victory is expected to further strengthen the presence of Omani talent in the regional professional wrestling scene and inspire a new generation of wrestlers from the Sultanate of Oman,” the 23-year-old from Barka said.
“More importantly, this victory carries a much greater meaning for me as an Omani. To become one of the first Omani wrestlers to capture professional wrestling championship gold outside of Oman is something I’m extremely proud of.”
In May 2026, Anas al Riyami had made his debut in Saudi Arabia, competing against top contenders in the Arab Championship.
“I hope this accomplishment shows that Omani wrestlers can compete on the regional and international stage and that there is a future for professional wrestling talent coming out of Oman. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me throughout these four years, and I believe this is only the beginning,” Anas added.
