Al Adawi, Khalid claim titles in Dhofar bowling tourney

MUSCAT: Oman national team bowler Musab al Adawi was crowned champion of the Open Championship at the Khareef Dhofar Bowling Championship 2026, while Khalid bin Ahmed Bait Issa claimed the Local Championship title as the six-day event concluded at the Dhofar Bowling Centre.
The championship attracted 92 players and featured separate Open and Local competitions to provide competitive opportunities for experienced bowlers and players from Dhofar Governorate.
The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Faisal bin Ali al Nahdi, Assistant Director-General at the Directorate-General of Culture, Sports and Youth in Dhofar Governorate, in the presence of officials from Dhofar Municipality and the Dhofar Bowling Centre.
The final day featured eight players who had progressed to the decisive stage of the Open Championship. Each bowler contested four games in a session lasting nearly two hours, producing an exciting battle for the podium in front of a good turnout of spectators.
Al Adawi emerged on top with a total score of 891, recording games of 222, 267, 166 and 236.
Khalid bin Ahmed Bait Issa finished runner-up with 834 points, following scores of 198, 223, 188 and 225, while Badr al Mahrami secured third place with 821 points after games of 187, 223, 198 and 213.
Sultan al Jabri finished fourth with 814 points, followed by Hassan al Azri in fifth with 810 and Hassan al Kharousi in sixth with 808. Khalid Qatan took seventh place with 773 points, while Mohammed al Hashmi finished eighth with 742.

KHALID SECURES LOCAL TITLE
In the Local Championship, Khalid bin Ahmed Bait Issa secured the title with 828 points, completing a successful tournament in which he also finished second in the Open event.
Suhail al Hamr claimed second place with 774 points, while Salem Qatan finished third with 742.
Ahmed al Mahri was fourth with 740 points, followed by Musallam al Amri with 713, Ahmed Akkak with 707, Mohammed Salem with 699 and Hashim al Kathiri with 675.
Al Nahdi expressed his delight at attending the closing ceremony and praised the level of competition displayed by some of Oman’s leading bowlers, including national team players.
He said tournaments of this nature contribute to strengthening the presence of bowling in Dhofar by allowing local players to compete regularly and benefit from the experience and technical level of established national players.
He also thanked the Oman Bowling Committee for its continued efforts to stage competitions in Dhofar, noting the strong participation and growing interest generated by the championship.
Al Adawi said he was pleased to add another Open Championship title to his achievements this season.

“I am very happy to win another title this season. The championship was challenging because of the strong competition among the players, and I benefited greatly from taking part,” Al Adawi said.
“We also witnessed a good improvement in the standard of both the Local and Open Championships.”
Local champion Bait Issa said the tournament provided valuable competition for players in Dhofar and reflected the growing popularity of bowling in the governorate.
“The championship was very good, and everyone benefited from it. We thank the Oman Bowling Committee and Dhofar Municipality for their continued support,” he said.
“The large number of participants reflects the growing interest in bowling, particularly in Dhofar. I worked hard to win the Local Championship and also competed strongly for the Open title. We hope the tournament continues and receives even greater support in the coming years.”
