Qurayat crowned Group 1 champs in Junior League

Qurayat were crowned Group 1 champions of the 2026 Junior Hockey League after defeating Al Amerat 4-1 in the final at Hockey Oman Stadium in Al Amerat.
The victory completed a perfect campaign for Qurayat, who won all five matches and displayed steady technical and physical improvement throughout the competition. Al Amerat finished runners-up following an impressive run to the final.
The closing ceremony was held under the auspices of Bashar al Balushi, Head of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in the presence of Oman Hockey Association board members and representatives of the participating clubs.
The final was a repeat of the preliminary-round encounter won 3-1 by Qurayat, with Al Amerat seeking to reverse the result and Qurayat aiming to preserve their unbeaten record.
Saad al Fazari opened the scoring in the 11th minute, giving Qurayat a 1-0 lead at the end of the opening quarter. Al Amerat attempted to respond and created attacking opportunities, but Qurayat remained organised in defence and maintained their advantage through a goalless second quarter.
Qurayat took firm control after the interval, scoring twice in five minutes. Faisal al Mujaini doubled the lead with a field goal in the 31st minute before Mouther al Rujaibi made it 3-0 in the 36th.
Al Amerat pushed forward in the final quarter, but Qurayat capitalised on the available space. Said al Fazari scored the fourth goal in the 48th minute, taking his tournament tally to nine. Al Amerat captain Naif Ibrahim pulled one back in the 57th, but it came too late to alter the outcome.
Qurayat also dominated the individual awards. Said al Fazari received the top scorer award, Ahmed al Musharfi was named best goalkeeper, while Saad al Fazari claimed the best player award following his influential performances throughout the competition.
Al Amerat received the runners-up medals before Qurayat’s players were presented with the winners’ medals and the Group One trophy.
OUTSTANDING CAMPAIGN
Qurayat coach Younis al Wahaibi described the team’s campaign as outstanding, saying the players’ technical and physical levels improved from one match to the next. He credited intensive training, video analysis, commitment to the tactical plan and cooperation between the club administration, technical staff and players for the success.
Al Wahaibi thanked the club management, general supervisor Dr Mohammed al Darmaki, the technical and administrative staff, players and supporters. He said the title would encourage the club to continue developing players across different age groups and competing for further honours.
Al Amerat team manager Ahmed al Hadi said reaching the final and securing second place represented a positive outcome, despite the team’s ambition to win the title. He praised the players’ commitment and team spirit, adding that the competition provided valuable experience.
Al Hadi said the club would build on the result by retaining and developing the squad, with the long-term aim of preparing players capable of representing Al Amerat’s senior team and Oman’s national teams.
