Meeting seeks stronger regulation of Oman’s esports sector

A coordination meeting bringing together esports clubs and players was held on Tuesday at Qimam Hall, Active Oman, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and professionalism across the esports sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
The meeting reviewed the regulatory framework governing the sector, with a particular focus on player contracts and the mechanisms required to establish clearer and more consistent procedures between clubs and players.
Discussions also addressed the safeguarding of minors, highlighting the importance of providing a safe and well-regulated environment that protects young players, safeguards their rights and clearly defines the responsibilities of all parties involved.
The meeting represents another step towards standardising procedures and strengthening cooperation between esports clubs and players as the sector continues to develop in Oman.
Such efforts are aimed at building a more sustainable and professional esports ecosystem, while creating an environment that supports the development of emerging talent and enables Omani players and teams to compete more effectively at regional and international levels.

The initiative also reflects the growing emphasis on establishing clear governance structures capable of supporting the continued development of esports and providing players with a structured pathway towards professional competition.
Hamed al Jahwari, Secretary General of the Omani Gaming and Esports Committee, said the meeting represented an important step towards establishing a clearer, more organised and professional framework for the esports sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
The rapid growth of esports requires clear regulations that keep pace with the development of the sector and protect the interests of everyone involved. Our focus is on regulating the relationship between clubs and players, ensuring that player contracts clearly define the rights and responsibilities of all parties and strengthening safeguarding measures for minors, he said.
Al Jahwari added that creating a safe and well-regulated environment would also help clubs operate on a more professional basis and provide players with greater clarity regarding their commitments and career pathways.
We also want to strengthen cooperation between clubs, players and all stakeholders in the esports community. Building a sustainable ecosystem requires common standards, greater awareness and continuous coordination. These efforts will help create the right environment for developing Omani talent, supporting players as they progress to higher levels of competition and strengthening Oman’s presence in regional and international esports events, he added.
