'A43KD' will put Oman on the amateur radio map

As part of the Dhofar Khareef 2026 activities, the Royal Omani Amateur Radio Society (ROARS) will organise an Amateur Radio Gathering in Dhofar Governorate from 26 to 28 August, at the Scout Camp on Jabal Ashur in the Wilayat of Mirbat, with the participation of amateur radio enthusiasts from the Sultanate of Oman and other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Throughout the gathering, a special-event amateur radio station operating under the callsign A43KD will establish contacts with radio amateurs worldwide. The station will help strengthen the presence of the Sultanate of Oman and Dhofar Governorate on the international amateur radio map, while also showcasing the governorate’s unique tourism and natural attractions.
The gathering will be inaugurated under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The event will bring together amateur radio operators to exchange knowledge and expertise, promote awareness of amateur radio and its scientific, technical and community dimensions, and strengthen links between Omani radio amateurs and their counterparts from other countries.

Held during the Dhofar Khareef season, the gathering will add a distinctive technical experience to the season’s activities, combining Dhofar’s natural beauty with the passion for communication over the airwaves. It will also give enthusiasts and visitors an opportunity to explore the world of amateur radio, experience radio station operations firsthand, and communicate with radio amateurs in different parts of the world.
Over the three-day event, the programme will feature a range of radio activities and practical demonstrations, technical sessions, and opportunities for participants to exchange expertise. Visitors and those interested in the field will also be able to learn more about amateur radio, its technologies and its various applications.
Dr Saoud Al Shoaili, Chairman of ROARS, said the gathering forms part of the Society’s efforts to promote amateur radio, attract those interested in communications and technology, and strengthen ties between amateur radio operators in Oman and their counterparts regionally and internationally.
Al Shoaili added that the gathering provides an opportunity to highlight the important role of amateur radio in developing technical skills, fostering international communication, serving communities, and supporting communications during emergencies and disasters. It also encourages young people to develop an interest in communications, electronics and modern technologies.
ROARS has invited amateur radio operators, enthusiasts and visitors to attend the gathering and enjoy a unique technical and social experience amid the distinctive atmosphere of the Dhofar Khareef season.
