ICESCO delegation visits heritage landmarks

SALALAH: A delegation from the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) on Tuesday visited landmarks of tourism and heritage in the Governorate of Dhofar. The tour, which also covered natural sites, was part of an ICESCO cultural programme codenamed “Bridges of Civilisation” that is being hosted by the Sultanate of Oman until August 28, 2026.
The delegation was led by Dr Salem bin Mohammed al Malik, Director-General of the ICESCO. The programme aims to promote cultural communication among ICESCO and member states, showcase civilisational, cultural, heritage and tourism assets of Dhofar Governorate and to outline national experiences in preserving heritage and using it in the development of sustainable tourism.
Dr Salem bin Hilal al Habsi, Director of the Secretariat-General of National Committees and Conferences at ICESCO, said that the “Bridges of Civilisation” programme embodies the organisation’s vision to enhance civilisational diplomacy and direct communication among member states, as well as opportunities for cooperation and joint initiatives.
Talal bin Humaid al Khusaibi, Director-General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, said that the visit of the ICESCO delegation stems from Oman’s keenness to consolidate cooperation with international organisations and institutions and to showcase Dhofar Governorate’s heritage, cultural and tourism landmarks. He underscored the significance of such visits in highlighting Oman’s experiences in preserving heritage and using it in a sustainable manner. - ONA
