MUSCAT: The Oman Athletics Association (OAA) is stepping up preparations for upcoming sporting commitments, focusing on strengthening the readiness of national teams, developing athletes and creating the conditions needed to achieve strong results at regional, continental and international competitions.
The Association is continuing its efforts to develop athletics in Oman by supporting athletes, enhancing technical programmes and providing promising talents with opportunities to gain valuable competitive experience. The initiatives form part of a broader strategy to raise the standard of Omani athletics and strengthen the country’s presence on the international sporting stage.
Said al Hajri, President of the Oman Athletics Association, said the Association remains committed to developing the sport and establishing a sustainable pathway that enables athletes to progress from the grassroots level to elite competition.
said the coming period represents an important stage for Omani athletics, with a number of major regional and international events on the calendar. The Association, he added, is working closely with technical teams and athletes to ensure the national teams reach the highest level of readiness and are capable of competing effectively.

Dr Ali bin Abdullah al Marzouqi, Vice-President of the Oman Athletics Association, said hosting international competitions represents an important gain for Omani sport, both by giving athletes the opportunity to compete alongside world-class competitors and by developing the experience of technical, administrative and officiating teams. He said such events provide Omani athletes with valuable exposure and help raise their standards, particularly ahead of major Asian competitions, while also strengthening national expertise through direct experience with international standards in event management, officiating and administration.
Al Hajri also stressed the importance of long-term athlete development, noting that success in athletics requires continuous preparation, careful technical planning and exposure to high-level competition. He added that the Association is placing particular emphasis on identifying young talent and providing the support needed to develop and refine their abilities.

The Association’s programmes include intensive training camps, participation in domestic and international competitions, and technical preparation designed to improve athletes’ performances across different disciplines. Particular attention is also being given to developing a new generation capable of representing Oman at major championships in the years ahead.
The Association president praised the efforts of the technical and administrative teams and the athletes for their commitment and dedication, stressing that cooperation among all stakeholders is essential to sustaining the growth and development of athletics in Oman.
The Association is also seeking to strengthen partnerships with relevant institutions and sports organisations to create a supportive environment for athletes while expanding opportunities for competition, development and experience.
As preparations continue, the Oman Athletics Association hopes to translate its development programmes into stronger performances and a more prominent international presence for Omani athletes. Its strategy reflects an ambition to build a more competitive and sustainable athletics system while contributing to the wider development of sport in Oman.
