OASC clarifies on paragliding accident in Dhofar

The Oman Air Sports Committee (OASC) has issued a clarification regarding social media reports about the paragliding accident that occurred in Dhofar Governorate on August 18.
The committee stated that the pilot who died in the incident was an experienced, highly efficient member of the national team. It added that all aviation equipment used was modern and met all safety requirements for this type of sport.
Furthermore, the committee pointed out that determining the final causes and circumstances of the accident remains under the jurisdiction of the competent authorities, pending the results of official procedures and investigations. The OASC expressed its deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to the family and relatives of the deceased.
Last week, the OASC, in coordination and cooperation with the relevant authorities, suspended all types of paragliding activities at all authorized locations in the Sultanate of Oman until further notice. This decision follows the tragic passing of a brother and sister in an accident in Salalah.
