Muscat: The Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry has warned business owners and Chamber members against unofficial surveys and opinion polls circulating through social media platforms.

The Chamber said it had recently detected links to surveys and opinion polls seeking information, data and views from business owners and members on matters related to the Chamber, although they had not been issued by the Chamber or through its official channels.

It warned against conducting or circulating surveys and opinion polls targeting business owners and Chamber members, or collecting information, data and opinions in a manner suggesting a connection with the Chamber, without referring to it and completing the relevant regulatory requirements.

The Chamber also cautioned business owners and members against responding to such surveys or disclosing any information or data through them. It stressed that material circulated outside its official channels does not represent the Chamber and has no connection with it. The Chamber bears no responsibility for its content or for any consequences resulting from interaction with it.

The Chamber said surveys, opinion polls and data collection are governed by the regulatory frameworks and procedures in force in the Sultanate of Oman. All surveys and opinion polls conducted by the Chamber are coordinated with the National Centre for Statistics and Information and published only through its official channels.

It urged business owners and Chamber members to exercise caution and verify the source of any survey or opinion poll before responding or providing information or data.

The Chamber added that it would take the necessary legal and regulatory measures against any practices involving the unauthorised use of its name or suggesting an association with it without obtaining official approvals from the Chamber and the relevant authorities.
