Dhofar Bowling tourney set for August 23

MUSCAT: The Oman Bowling Committee, in cooperation with Dhofar Municipality as part of the Khareef Dhofar Season events, will organise the Khareef Dhofar Bowling Championship 2026 from August 23 to 28 at the Dhofar Bowling Centre, bringing together leading bowlers from Oman and other GCC countries.
This year’s championship will feature two separate competitions an Open Championship and a Local Championship, with attractive cash prizes allocated for the leading finishers.
The Open Championship will begin on August 23 and conclude on August 28, with participation open to bowlers from Oman and abroad. The Local Championship, reserved for players from Dhofar Governorate, will get underway on August 24 and run until August 27.
Local players will also be eligible to compete in the Open Championship, providing them with an opportunity to test their skills against some of the leading bowlers participating in the event.
Moosa bin Waleed al Maimani, Tournament Director, thanked the organisers of the Khareef Dhofar Season events and Dhofar Municipality for their continued support of the championship, noting that previous editions had generated strong participation and helped create greater interest in bowling in the governorate.

“Bowling continues to grow across the various governorates of Oman, including Dhofar, which has a large number of players practising the sport, with several of them also represented in the national teams,” Al Maimani said.
He added that the championship provides an important competitive platform for bowlers from Dhofar as well as those taking part in the Open Championship.
“We expect strong and challenging competition. Valuable cash prizes have been allocated for both the Local and Open Championships, while players from Dhofar are also allowed to participate in the Open event,” he said.
Al Maimani explained that a specific lane oil pattern has been selected for the Open Championship in accordance with the technical requirements applied in international bowling competitions. Details of the pattern have already been communicated to players interested in participating, allowing them to prepare for the lane conditions ahead of the tournament.
He also highlighted the Oman Bowling Committee’s efforts to distribute its competitions and activities across different governorates throughout the season rather than concentrating them in one location.
The committee views the Khareef Dhofar Season as an ideal opportunity to stage one of its major activities in Dhofar, while contributing to the variety of sporting events held in the governorate during this period.
Al Maimani said the encouraging turnout in previous editions has strengthened the committee’s commitment to continuing the championship and developing it further, with the prize structure designed to encourage strong participation in both the local and open competitions.
