SQU biomedical programme receives international accreditation

MUSCAT: The Sultan Qaboos University’s programme of Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science (with Clinical Training) has received international accreditation for the second time after meeting the standards and requirements. This constitutes the third consecutive international accreditation cycle for the aforementioned programme, conducted at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, during the 2025-2029 period.
The accomplishment was unveiled after an international external quality assurance assessment that was conducted by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences in United Kingdom. It was officially approved by Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education on April 8, 2025. The Institute officially affirmed that the programme successfully met all the requirements for re-accreditation.
Prof Dr Rashid bin Khalfan al Abri, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, said, “This achievement reaffirms the college’s commitment to academic excellence, its keenness on constant improvement and its dedication to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the strategic plan of Sultan Qaboos University on enhancing the quality of education, learning and research.” For his part, Dr Nasr al Wahaibi, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, said, “This achievement has been realised after the preparation of the comprehensive self-assessment report on re-accreditation, as well as a field visit conducted by the team of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences last year.” Dr Shadia bint Mohammed al Bahlani, Head of the Unit of Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, said, “This achievement represents a new milestone in the programme’s journey in the field of international accreditation. The programme has obtained accreditation for the first time for the period 2015-2019. Then the programme successfully completed the first re-accreditation cycle for the period 2020-2024. Now it has realised international re-accreditation for the second time for the period 2025-2029.” — ONA
