Indian Social Club Oman celebrates India’s 80th Independence Day

MUSCAT: Indian Social Club Oman (ISC Oman) celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with a cultural programme attended by members of the Indian community in Oman.
The event was attended by Prashant Pise, Ambassador of India to Oman, as chief guest, along with several community figures, including Kiran Ashar, Dr Mohammed Ali, Aftab Patel and Mohnish Behl.
The Ambassador conveyed Independence Day greetings to the Indian community in Oman.
Welcoming the gathering, Suhail Khan, Chairman, ISC Oman, extended his greetings and highlighted the significance of the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, and its enduring association with the country’s freedom movement and national identity.
A highlight of the celebrations was the presentation of the ‘Indian of the Year’ award to Balwinder Singh in recognition of his longstanding contribution to community service and philanthropy.

Singh has been involved in charitable and community initiatives for several decades. Accepting the award, he thanked ISC Oman and described the recognition as one of the most memorable moments of his time in Oman.
The celebrations featured a range of cultural and musical performances highlighting India’s linguistic and regional diversity.
The Muscat Singers – Open Mic Group of ISC performed a medley of patriotic songs, followed by performances by various ISC groups.
The Club’s 16 Linguistic Wings presented folk and cultural performances representing different regions of India, showcasing the country’s diverse traditions and the spirit of unity in diversity.
Rangrez, the artists’ group of ISC, also displayed a collection of paintings by members of the Indian community.

The event was organised with the support of the ISC Management Committee, staff and volunteers, including General Secretary K M Shakeel, Treasurer Shameer PTK, Entertainment Secretary Shalini Karthik, Cultural Secretary SDT Prasad and Community Welfare Secretary Santhosh Kumar.
Proposing the vote of thanks, Joint General Secretary Manoj Ranade thanked the Ambassador, officials and staff of the Embassy of India, Linguistic Wing conveners, committees, members, sponsors and supporters for their contribution to the celebrations.
ISC Oman also acknowledged the support of its sponsors and partners for the event.
With 26 Linguistic Wings and various affiliate groups, ISC Oman provides a platform for members of the Indian community to participate in social, cultural and sporting activities and maintain connections with their diverse regional and linguistic heritage.
The Independence Day celebrations highlighted the community’s cultural diversity and its continued efforts to promote social and cultural engagement in Oman.
