Salalah designated as Regional Resilience Hub by UNDRR

SALALAH: The city of Salalah has been designated as a Regional Resilience Hub by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). The city has also been designated as a Healthy City.
A celebration was held to mark the achievements under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, in presence of Shaikh Dr Said bin Humaid al Harthy, Wali of Salalah, on Monday.
The two achievements reflect the city’s progress in enhancing quality of life and sustainability. They are the fruit of the integrated efforts aimed at building a healthier, safer city, better equipped to handle various future challenges.
The designation of Salalah as a Regional Resilience Hub follows its international recognition by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) under the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative. Salalah becomes the first city in the Sultanate of Oman, the second in the Gulf region, and the third in the Arab world to receive international recognition. This achievement reflects Salalah’s capabilities in disaster risk reduction and enhanced preparedness and response to challenges, alongside ongoing efforts to develop its institutional and community framework to support its adaptability and the continuity of its vital functions under various circumstances.

In the health sector, the Salalah Healthy City project represents a model of integrated work between governmental and private institutions, civil society organisations, and the local community. This model stems from a comprehensive concept of health that goes beyond providing treatment services to include creating a healthy and safe environment, promoting healthy lifestyles, enhancing safety and environmental quality, and supporting community participation in various areas related to human health and well-being.
The Salalah Healthy City and Resilience Hub achievements would enhance initiatives are part of efforts to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040, which prioritises human well-being, quality of life, and sustainability in national development, and seeks to build a society with advanced levels of prosperity and an environment conducive to sustainable development.
These achievements will contribute to the realisation of the goals of Oman Vision 2040, enhance Salalah’s presence as a model for sustainable urban development and support ongoing efforts to develop an integrated urban environment that considers the needs of residents and visitors, combining health, preparedness, sustainability, and quality of life.
