Human Rights Commission promotes awareness in Dhofar

SALALAH: The Oman Human Rights Commission has implemented a human rights awareness and education programme in Dhofar Governorate, coinciding with Khareef Dhofar Season 2026.
More than 340 people from various segments of society benefited from the programme, which forms part of the Commission’s efforts to promote a culture of human rights across the governorates of Oman.
Implemented in cooperation and coordination with several institutions, the programme included the distribution of more than 2,500 awareness and research publications and 104 awareness posters to various organisations and institutions.
The publications included research studies on human rights issues for researchers, booklets designed to raise children’s awareness of abuse, bullying and related issues, as well as the Commission’s annual reports and informational materials on international conventions.
The posters highlighted the international conventions to which Oman has acceded and national protection mechanisms for women, children and persons with disabilities.
The programme also featured a series of training workshops and interactive activities held alongside the Ministry of Education’s summer programme for school students, 'My Summer... Learning and Innovation.'

 

 

The activities included workshops on the role of the Oman Human Rights Commission in protecting and promoting children’s rights, conducted in cooperation with a number of schools. Children also took part in activities such as 'Colour and Learn Your Rights' and sessions on self-protection mechanisms, organised in cooperation with the Bahja Omani Association for Orphans.
Specialised workshops were also held for Girl Guides at the Ashur Scout Camp and for members of the Omani Special Olympics at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah.
In addition, a seminar aimed at promoting humanitarian and human rights work was organised in cooperation with the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Taqah.
The programme was implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, the Social Development Committee in the Wilayat of Taqah, several civil society organisations and the Omani Special Olympics.
The initiatives form part of the Commission’s mandate to promote human rights awareness among different segments of society, in accordance with its system issued under Royal Decree No 47/2026.
