What fascinated viewers was not only the beauty of the lighthouse, but the unusual story behind reaching it. The route connecting it to the mainland becomes accessible only when the tide is low. As the sea rises, the water floods the path, making the lighthouse temporarily inaccessible.
“The story of this lighthouse is closer to magic than reality,” says @Eatwithzara. “The road leading to it disappears as the sea level rises, meaning you can only visit it during certain periods.”
Her post drew attention to the lighthouse’s unusual access, with people fascinated by the idea that the sea can effectively erase the road at certain times of the day, transforming the destination into an elusive coastal attraction.
“The most beautiful view is from the top of the lighthouse. The scenery is, to put it simply, incredible,” she says.
Yet the beauty comes with a warning. Visitors must carefully plan their return, particularly if they intend to stay until sunset.
“Make sure you return before sunset so the sea does not rise and the road disappears on you,” she says.
Social media influencers Omar al Kindi and Mohammed al Balushi have also highlighted the unusual experience, describing the lighthouse as a spectacular destination surprisingly close to Muscat.
“This tourist island is close to Muscat,” they say. “You can reach the island and then find yourself unable to leave.”
According to the influencers, visitors need to arrive during low tide to walk across to the lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic views. Sunset, they add, offers one of the most memorable experiences, with the lighthouse overlooking the surrounding sea and rocky landscape.
For Salman al Zadjali, a resident of Al Batinah who lives relatively close to Al Sawadi, the story itself has become one of the lighthouse’s biggest attractions.
“Visitors are always fascinated by the story of this lighthouse and become excited to go as soon as they learn about the challenge and the fact that the road leading to it is accessible only for a limited period each day,” he says.
He adds that visitors frequently praise the views from the top, describing the experience as something resembling a story from a novel or a remarkable travel tale.
Perhaps that is what makes the Sawadi Lighthouse so captivating. Beyond its striking views, it offers an experience shaped by the rhythm of the sea. The road appears when the tide retreats, opening the way for visitors to explore the island, before disappearing beneath the water once again.
