Oman records growth in agriculture, fisheries sector

Muscat: The agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector in the Sultanate of Oman recorded positive performance during the first quarter of 2026, according to the quarterly bulletin issued by the Ministry of Economy.
The ministry stated that the sector witnessed notable growth in its gross domestic product (GDP) at constant prices, rising by 6.1 per cent to reach approximately RO 337.8 million, compared to RO 318.3 million during the same period in 2025.
The growth reflects improved performance across activities related to agricultural and fisheries production, driven by increased investments and enhanced efficiency in production and supply chains.

At the sub-sector level, agricultural activities recorded strong growth of 12 per cent, while fisheries activities grew by 0.9 per cent, indicating stable performance in the marine sector and continued development in the agricultural sector.
The ministry also noted that the relative contribution of the agriculture and fisheries sector to the national economy increased, accounting for 3.4 per cent of total GDP during the first quarter of 2026, compared to 2.9 per cent during the same period last year.
The ministry said the sector’s performance comes amid ongoing efforts to develop productive sectors and support the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 by strengthening investments, improving production efficiency and expanding the economic base built on local resources.
