Insurance contributions from private sector establishments support the financial sustainability of the social protection system: ministry.

The Ministry of Labour, in coordination with the Social Protection Fund, affirmed that employers' commitment to paying insurance contributions is a fundamental pillar for the sustainability of the social protection system and ensures the continuity of insurance coverage for workers in the Sultanate of Oman, both citizens and expatriates.
This, in turn, enhances the stability of the labour market and improves the efficiency of insurance compliance.
The ministry explained that employers are obligated to pay a monthly contribution of 1 per cent of the employee's total wage, with no upper salary cap. The contribution is calculated daily and covers all employees in the establishment without exception.
The ministry clarified that the Social Protection Fund issues a contribution payment notice at the end of each month, including the employer's contribution and the contributions of all employees, in addition to the various branches of social insurance. The ministry also noted the inclusion of sick leave and special leave within the system, effective July 19, 2026.
The ministry emphasised the importance of employers ensuring the accuracy of employee data, both Omani and non-Omani, and regularly updating wage data with the Social Protection Fund. It also stressed the importance of paying contributions on time to guarantee the accurate calculation of benefits and the continuity of insurance payments.
Additionally, the monthly invoice issued by the Social Protection Fund is directly based on the data registered with the Fund, according to the ministry. This necessitates that establishments monitor and update their employee data continuously, enhancing the efficiency of managing insurance obligations and minimising any discrepancies or issues that may arise from outdated data.
Strengthening the commitment of private sector establishments to paying insurance contributions contributes to supporting the financial sustainability of the social protection system and provides regular cash flows that enhance the Fund's ability to meet its future obligations. This also positively impacts the business environment by raising compliance and governance levels, and improving the reliability of labour market data, which supports economic decision-making and enhances the attractiveness of the Sultanate of Oman for local and foreign investments under a more efficient and stable insurance system.
