Nama moots production of biofuel

MUSCAT: Nama Water Services is implementing a pilot project to cultivate the camelina plant, one of the most prominent sustainable crops used in the production of biofuel.
The project will be carried out in partnership with Hema Energy company as part of Nama Water Services’ commitment towards the consolidation of environmental sustainability and the realization of green economy targets.
The project embodies Nama Water Services company’s approach to transforming recycled water into a strategic resource that consolidates sustainable development. It envisages the use of recycled water in an innovative manner to enhance water and food security, diminish carbon emissions and support clean energy transition.
The project seeks to establish an integrated technical system to measure the potential of camelina in carbon sequestration, in addition to the plant’s economic and commercial feasibility.
Under the partnership, Nama Water Services will supply recycled water, while Hema Energy will undertake the project’s technical management, operation and data analysis.
The project receives the attention of various national entities, including Sultan Qaboos University (which will provide research and technical verification), the Environment Authority (which will oversee the project’s environmental aspects) and Oman Net Zero Centre (which will ensure that the project aligns with the Sultanate of Oman’s objectives to achieve net zero). - ONA
