Oman junior golf teams gear up with Kazakhstan camp

MUSCAT: Oman’s junior national golf teams are continuing their preparations for upcoming regional and continental competitions through a joint international training camp in Almaty, Kazakhstan, running from July 31 to August 7. The camp forms part of the Oman Golf Association’s long-term development programme aimed at enhancing the technical, physical and competitive readiness of its young players.
The initiative reflects the growing partnership between the Oman Golf Association (OGA) and the Kazakhstan Golf Federation, which has expanded in recent years through technical cooperation, knowledge exchange and joint development programmes designed to strengthen the sport in both countries.
The training camp features intensive daily practice sessions under the supervision of the national coaching staff, alongside competitive rounds that simulate tournament conditions. The programme is designed to sharpen technical skills, improve physical preparation and expose players to different coaching methods and playing styles, providing valuable international experience ahead of future championships.
The camp will conclude with an international friendly tournament involving the participating teams. In addition to Oman and Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Golf Federation has invited Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to compete, giving Omani golfers the opportunity to test themselves against a variety of Asian opponents while assessing the progress achieved during the training programme.
The Omani delegation is headed by Faiz Mohammed Riyadh, Vice-Chairman of the Oman Golf Association. The technical team is led by coach Jonathan, assisted by Fahad al Kitani, while Nickel Sampt and Ahmed al Jahdhami oversee the administrative responsibilities.
The delegation includes 12 promising players representing different age groups: Moheeb al Kathiri, Mohammed al Junaidi, Mohammed al Nabhani, Taimur al Busaidy, Yousef al Rumhi, Waleed al Sharji, Ibrahim Riyadh, Ahmed al Harthy, Anas al Kathiri, Mirairi Sambat, Heba al Nabhani, and Yasmeen al Kathiri.
Speaking about the camp, Vice-Chairman Faiz Mohammed Riyadh described it as an important milestone in the association’s player development strategy and a continuation of the successful partnership established between the Omani and Kazakh golf federations. He noted that the collaboration began with official meetings in Muscat and has since developed into joint youth programmes, including previous exchange visits and friendly competitions.
Riyadh said the inclusion of additional Asian teams in the closing tournament would provide Omani golfers with high-level competitive exposure and valuable international experience. He also praised the players’ commitment, discipline and determination throughout the camp, highlighting that several Under-13 golfers are taking part in their first overseas training experience — an opportunity that will help build confidence and prepare them for future international competition.
The Oman Golf Association (OGA) continues to prioritise youth development through overseas training camps, international competition and strategic partnerships, reinforcing its vision of producing a new generation of golfers capable of representing Oman with distinction on the regional, Asian and international stage.
