Jashn-e-Deccan brings Sufi Qawwali Magic to Oman

MUSCAT: The Deccani Wing of the Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman celebrated its signature cultural event Jashn-e-Deccan 2026 with an evening of music, poetry and community recognition at Oman Hall, CBFS Bowsher.

Presented by Silver Star Company, the event on July 31 featured internationally acclaimed Qawwali performers Nazeer and Naseer Warsi, grandsons and disciples of renowned Qawwali maestro Padma Shri Aziz Ahmed Khan Warsi.

The programme was attended by Prashant Pise, Ambassador of India to Oman, as chief guest, along with Indian Social Club Chairman Suhail Khan, Al Omaniya CEO Aftab Patel, Huawei Oman Country Director Lei Chenyu (Mars), Colonel Abid Ali Al Saadi and other dignitaries.

The packed Oman Hall witnessed a captivating performance by the Warsi Brothers, who presented popular Sufi Qawwali compositions including Bhar Do Jholi, Tajdar-e-Haram, Kab Tak Mere Moula, Phir Mang Phir Mang and Damadam Mast Qalandar.

The duo also highlighted the poetry of legendary figures including Hazrat Ameer Khusro, Amjad Hyderabadi and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. In a special musical segment, they performed traditional tunes representing different regions of India, including Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat and Hyderabad, drawing appreciation from the audience.

The evening began with a welcome address by Dr S M Wasifuddin, Convener of the Deccani Wing. The programme also featured poetry recitations by Feroze Khan and Dawood Khan, who presented works by renowned Deccani poets Makhdoom Mohiuddin and Ghouse KhamaKha.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Prashant Pise congratulated the Deccani Wing for its contribution to promoting Indian culture and community engagement in Oman. He also shared updates on upcoming initiatives by the Indian Embassy.

As part of the event, students from the community who achieved outstanding results in the CBSE examinations were honoured. Awards were presented to Roofey Manaal, Ramiya Manaal, Syeda Musfirah Kulsum, Syeda Saleha Yasmin, Mohammed Maaz Quadri and Nusrat Mohiuddin.

Community service awards were also presented to Salman Amjad, Dawood Khan, Syed Fasiuddin and Mohammed Abdul Aziz in recognition of their contributions.

A special memento was presented to the Ambassador by Dr Wasifuddin, while the Ambassador honoured Indian Social Club Chairman Suhail Khan and Indian Schools Oman Board of Directors Chairman Syed Ahmed Salman for their services to the Indian community.

The successful event was coordinated by event in-charge Azim Shafi, with support from the Deccani Wing committee members, volunteers and community patrons.
