MUSCAT: Oman Film Society (OFS) made a notable appearance at the 18th edition of the Marateale International Film Festival with whose participation marks the first official Omani presence at an Italian film festival.
This participation was made possible through the support of the Italian Embassy in Oman, the Foreign Ministry, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. It reflects the importance of cooperation and partnership between the Sultanate of Oman and the Italian Republic in exchanging cinematic experiences and expertise, and in promoting future co-productions between film-makers in both countries.
As part of building bridges of cooperation and diversifying partnership opportunities with various film festivals and organisations worldwide, a meeting was held between Oman Film Society, represented by Dr Ahmed al Othman, Head of the Cooperation and Local and International Relations Committee, and the management of the Marateale International Film Festival, represented by Antonella Caramia, the President of the Mediterranean Cinema Association, Nicola Timponi, the Festival Artisic Director, and Rosa Messuti, the Head of Cooperation and International Relations.
Dr Al Othman noted that the meeting with the management of Marateale International Film Festival was highly fruitful and successful. Discussions focused on the importance of signing a memorandum of understanding and partnership between the Society and the Festival. This agreement would allow OFS to include Omani films in future editions of the Festival and would also enable the Marateale Film Festival to nominate Italian films for participation in Omani film festivals. Furthermore, the two parties would exchange jury members.
