Al Rustaq Hospital performs advanced endoscopic nasal septal repair

MUSCAT: The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Unit at Al Rustaq Hospital has successfully performed an advanced endoscopic nasal septal perforation repair, marking another milestone in the hospital’s efforts to expand specialised healthcare services and localise advanced surgical techniques in accordance with the highest standards of quality and patient safety.

A nasal septal perforation can significantly affect nasal function and a patient’s quality of life. The condition may cause several distressing symptoms, including nasal obstruction, recurrent nosebleeds, crusting, dryness, a whistling sound while breathing and general discomfort during daily activities. Surgical intervention is often required when conservative treatment fails to provide relief.

The hospital’s ENT team said the procedure was performed using an endoscopic technique, which provides enhanced visualisation of the perforation site and enables precise surgical repair while minimising trauma to surrounding tissues.

The operation involved the meticulous elevation of mucosal flaps and the tension-free closure of the perforation. A supporting graft was used to promote healing, while silicone splints were placed to stabilise the repair during recovery and optimise functional and long-term outcomes.

According to the medical team, the endoscopic approach offers several advantages, including avoiding external surgical incisions, reducing postoperative pain and bleeding, accelerating recovery and improving functional and cosmetic outcomes.
