Summer skating programme expands across Oman

MUSCAT: The Oman Skating Sports Committee is continuing its summer training programme across several wilayats under the slogan “Our Summer... Skating”, as part of its efforts to promote skating sports and attract more participants from different age groups.
The programme, which will run until August, is being implemented in the wilayats of Al Seeb, Ibri, Al Rustaq, Al Buraimi and Dhank. It also includes activities at ice-skating venues at Snow Oman and Boulevard Al Seeb, providing participants with opportunities to experience both roller and ice disciplines.
The initiative aims to introduce community members to various forms of skating, expand the sport’s grassroots base and encourage children and young people to take part in structured training programmes.

The roller sports segment features disciplines such as speed skating and roller hockey, while the ice programme includes ice hockey and freestyle ice skating. The summer period is considered an ideal opportunity to attract young participants and identify promising talents who can be developed through specialised training.
Skating is regarded as one of the emerging sports in the Sultanate of Oman and has witnessed growing interest among young people in recent years. Through the programme, the committee seeks to build an integrated sporting system for all disciplines under its umbrella by developing players and qualifying coaches, administrators and other technical personnel.
The committee is also preparing to organise several local and international competitions during the next phase, aimed at strengthening the sport’s presence and providing young athletes with more opportunities to compete and gain experience.

Among the major events on its calendar is the Oman Roller Hockey Championship 2026, scheduled to be held in September with the participation of teams from 10 countries. The international line-up is expected to include teams from England, Belarus, Germany, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, alongside participants from several other countries.
The committee will also organise a local speed skating championship, with further details expected to be announced soon.
In December, Oman will host the Oman Ice Hockey Championship 2026, which will feature a women’s category for the first time in the tournament’s history. The addition represents an important step towards increasing women’s participation and supporting the development of women’s ice hockey in the Sultanate of Oman.
Further competitions, development programmes and specialised qualification courses for players, coaches and administrators are also included in the committee’s upcoming calendar as it continues working to establish a sustainable pathway for skating sports in Oman.
