Oman Sail hones talent at Ras Al Hadd camp

MUSCAT: Oman Sail’s Summer Training Camp in Ras Al Hadd is about to reach the halfway point as more sailors from all fleets go through a week of intense training. Running from July 10 to August 19, 2026.
The camp will bring a total of 57 national sailors together alongside visiting international teams to refine technical skills, elevate physical conditioning and prepare for major upcoming championships on the regional sailing calendar.
Taking advantage of Ras Al Hadd’s exceptional wind conditions, the training schedule is structured across six dedicated blocks running throughout July and August. The programme provides tailored, class-specific instruction for Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, and 29er fleets under the guidance of Oman Sail’s expert coaches.

Led by Hashim al Rashdi, Oman Sail’s Head Coach Performance, alongside Female Team Leader Ibtisam al Salmi, the camp focuses on building tactical sharpness, technical mastery and athletic endurance.
The programme serves as a critical preparation ground for key events, including the upcoming Oman Sailing Championships from August 14-18, followed by Al Musannah Race Week and the 3rd Arab Women Sailing Championship from October 15-21.

Over these six training blocks, our focus is on technical precision, tactical decision-making under pressure and peak physical conditioning. The 18-sailor Optimist fleet is headed by Coach Sultan al Zadjali and supported by Development Coaches
Hassan al Rahbi, Ibrahim al Fadhli and Ali al Araimi. The ILCA 4 fleet features 11 sailors under Coach Ahmed al Wahaibi, while the ILCA 6 and ILCA 7 fleets feature three sailors each under the direction of Coach Mundher al Kindi. Additionally, Coach Zakariya al Wahabi is leading four sailors in the high- performance 29er class.

Demonstrating Oman Sail’s growing status as a regional sailing hub, the Ras Al Hadd camp will also host two visiting national and regional squads. A team from the Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club will join the camp this week with two separate contingents: an ILCA team of seven sailors and one coach training from July 25 to August 2, followed by an Optimist team of seven sailors and one coach training from August 5-20 . Next month, from August 9-19, the Sri Lanka National Team will arrive, bringing four Optimist sailors and one coach.
This international participation offers Omani sailors valuable fleet-racing practice against top regional talent ahead of the autumn championship calendar and helps position Oman Sail as a leading training provider within the region as well as showcasing the potential for coastal regions across the nation to host major sporting events and activities.
