MUSCAT: More than 150 skaters took part in the Roller Skating Open Day held recently at Al Seeb corniche as part of the 2026 Summer Sports Programme.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in cooperation with the Oman Skating Sports Committee, attracting skaters and enthusiasts from different age groups amid a lively sporting atmosphere that reflected the growing popularity of roller skating in the Sultanate of Oman.
The event formed part of a series of community sporting activities being held across Muscat Governorate during the summer season, to encourage public participation in physical activity and promote healthy lifestyles.
The programme featured a series of exciting roller-skating demonstrations and practical training sessions focusing on essential skating skills. The sessions were supervised by experienced coaches and sports instructors, who provided participants with guidance on safe skating techniques, balance, movement and the proper use of protective equipment.
The event was held under the Ministry’s Summer Sports Programme, which seeks to encourage members of the community to remain physically active, adopt healthier lifestyles and explore modern and youth-oriented sports.
It also aimed to make effective use of beaches and public facilities across the governorate by providing young people with safe and motivating spaces in which to practise, develop their skills and interact with fellow participants.
Participants and parents praised the organisation of the event and the strong public turnout. They also highlighted the importance of such summer initiatives in helping young people make constructive use of their leisure time, while promoting sportsmanship and strengthening social ties within the community.
