Clouds descend over Wadi Kabir

MUSCAT: Low clouds descended over the mountains of Wadi Kabir on Sunday afternoon, creating hazy conditions as unstable weather affected parts of the Sultanate of Oman.

Weather radar images on Sunday evening showed rainfall of varying intensity, accompanied by thunderstorm cells, over the central Al Hajar Mountains and parts of the eastern Al Hajar Mountains.

Cumulonimbus clouds formed over the mountain range, generating active downdraft winds.

Speaking to the Observer, an Oman Met Office forecaster said the clouds had drifted from the Al Hajar Mountains towards coastal areas, including Wadi Kabir.

“Even if it rains in Muscat, it is expected to be light. The downdraft is causing the fresh winds,” the forecaster said.

“Some parts of Al Dakhiliyah received heavy rainfall, particularly over the mountainous areas,” he added.

Cumulonimbus cloud activity was also reported over desert areas of Dhofar Governorate and parts of Al Wusta Governorate, bringing chances of scattered rainfall. Intermittent drizzle also continued along the coastal strip.
