Oman eye Chinese Taipei after Bahrain loss

Oman's national youth handball team suffered a 33-23 defeat to Bahrain in the 19th Asian Men's Youth Handball Championship on Monday in Zhuzhou, China, reducing their hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
The squad has already shifted its focus to its final match against Chinese Taipei on Wednesday, taking part in a light recovery and training session as they aim to conclude their campaign with a positive result. The championship also serves as the Asian qualification tournament for the IHF Men's Youth World Championship.

Oman made a confident start against Bahrain, with Maamoon al Hassani scoring the opening goal as both Gulf rivals exchanged goals in an evenly contested first half. The Omani side impressed with disciplined defending and quick transitions, but Bahrain capitalised on late opportunities to edge ahead 15-13 at half-time.
Bahrain gradually took control after the break as the physical demands of the tournament began to affect the Omani players. Increased intensity, forced turnovers and effective fast breaks enabled Bahrain to extend its lead before sealing a 33-23 victory despite Oman's determined efforts to fight back.

Following the match, the coaching staff immediately turned its attention to the decisive clash against Chinese Taipei, with recovery work and light tactical training scheduled to help the players regain fitness while refining defensive and attacking adjustments.
Team administrator Ahmed bin Rashid al Jassasi praised the players' commitment despite the defeat.
'Our players have given everything since leaving Oman. The next match is extremely important for us, and we will prepare using every technical and administrative resource available. Everyone is united behind the team.'

He also revealed that head of delegation Amir al Dughaishi has promised the players a financial reward if they secure victory in the upcoming match.
Assistant coach Yahya bin Khamis al Maashani attributed the defeat largely to fatigue.
'The first half reflected the players' concentration and commitment. In the second half, fatigue became evident, mistakes increased and Bahrain took advantage. Now our full focus is on Chinese Taipei.'
The players also expressed confidence ahead of the final match. Al Khattab al Hassani said the team has already put the Bahrain defeat behind them, while Hamza al Hassani stressed that the tournament has provided valuable experience. Umair al Balushi praised the support of the coaching and administrative staff, and Waleed al Balushi said morale remains high as the team looks to end its campaign on a positive note.
