Strategic road projects strengthen food security, regional connectivity

MUSCAT: As part of its drive to strengthen infrastructure and advance sustainable development, Oman is pressing ahead with a series of strategic road projects across Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi and Al Sharqiyah North governorates. The initiatives are designed to improve connectivity, support economic diversification and enhance access to productive sectors, particularly those contributing to national food security.
Among the flagship projects is the 70-kilometre road leading to Al Namaa Poultry Company in the Wilayat of Dhank. The route is expected to provide a major logistical boost to one of Oman's key food production facilities by facilitating the movement of livestock feed, production inputs and finished products while reducing transport costs and improving supply chain efficiency.
Salim bin Rashid al Alawi, a farmer from Dhank, said the road would significantly benefit local agricultural and livestock producers.
'The new road will save time, reduce transportation costs and make it easier to move products and production materials. It will also encourage further investment in agriculture and livestock farming, as modern road infrastructure is essential for the success of productive projects,' he said.
The project aligns with Oman’s broader strategy to strengthen national food security by investing in infrastructure that supports agricultural and industrial development while creating a more attractive environment for private sector investment.

In Al Buraimi Governorate, construction of the 42-kilometre Al Abeelah-Al Fiyadh Road is expected to improve connectivity between residential communities, shorten travel times and enhance road safety. It will also facilitate commercial activity, improve access to essential services and support balanced regional development, creating new opportunities for businesses and investors.
Meanwhile, the Wadi Bani Jaber Road project in Al Sharqiyah North Governorate will improve access to remote villages while supporting tourism in one of the governorate's most scenic destinations. The road is also expected to enhance access to public services and improve safety, particularly during seasonal weather conditions.
Mohammed bin Khamis al Jabri, a resident of Wadi Bani Jaber, described the project as a long-awaited development for the local community.
'This road will make daily travel safer and more convenient for residents, students and employees while improving access to essential services. It will also strengthen tourism and create new opportunities for small businesses and home-based enterprises that rely on visitors to the area,' he said.
The projects underscore Oman’s integrated approach to infrastructure development, recognising that modern road networks are not merely transport corridors but key enablers of economic growth, investment and social development. By strengthening links between communities and supporting strategic sectors such as food production, tourism and commerce, the projects are expected to contribute significantly to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 while improving the quality of life across Oman.
