Oman prohibits imports of some fish products

MUSCAT: Oman's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has banned the import of certain fish species from designated regions in Austria and South Korea.
The ban applies to fish, and their products, by-products and waste, imported from Lower Austria state in Austria, and from the North Jeolla, South Jeolla and Jeju provinces of South Korea.
Exempted from the restriction are processed products, by-products and waste that have undergone heat treatment, along with aquaculture equipment that meets the inactivation standards set out in WOAH's Aquatic Animal Health Code.
The decision is anchored in Oman's Veterinary Quarantine Law, issued by Royal Decree No. 45/2004, and its executive regulations under Ministerial Decision No. 107/2008. According to the text, it was adopted on the recommendation of the competent veterinary authority and in the public interest.
Article 2 of the decree obliges all relevant government entities to enforce the ban within their respective areas of jurisdiction.
The decree was signed on July 15, 2026 by Dr Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources.
