MoE: Preference amendment period starts on July 21

Muscat: The Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced the opening of the programme preference amendment period for General Education Diploma (GED) students for the 2025/2026 academic year through the Higher Education Admission Centre's (HEAC) electronic system. The amendment window will run from July 21 to August 1.

The Ministry confirmed that 47 technical support centres have been set up across the educational directorates in the governorates to provide technical assistance as well as academic and career guidance to students and their parents during this important stage of the admission process.

In addition, 48 technical support centres have been established by the Centre for Career Guidance and Student Counselling across the governorates. These centres will assist students with registration and programme preference amendments, answer related enquiries and provide academic and career counselling to help them select programmes that best match their interests and aspirations.

The Ministry said the programme preference amendment period is a key stage in the higher education admission process, allowing students to review and revise their study choices in light of their final examination results. Students will also be able to reorder their programme preferences according to their priorities and plans through the electronic admission system, which has been designed to facilitate registration and amendments.

Shaikh Yaqoub bin Saif al Shahimi, Director-General of the Centre for Career Guidance and Student Counselling, said the technical support centres are among the Ministry's initiatives to support GED students during the preference amendment period.

Al Shahimi added that the centres offer an integrated environment combining technical support with academic and career counselling, enabling students to make well-informed educational decisions that align with their interests, abilities and future career opportunities. He also stressed that the centres have been strategically distributed across the governorates to ensure easy access to services.

The Ministry urged General Education Diploma students and their parents to make full use of the technical support centres during the amendment period and to carefully review their programme preferences before submitting them in order to build educational and career pathways that reflect their future ambitions.
