MUSCAT: As thousands of visitors head to Dhofar to enjoy the annual Khareef Dhofar Season, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) has stepped up security and traffic operations along key routes leading to the governorate, ensuring safer journeys and smoother movement during one of Oman’s busiest tourism periods.
Khareef Dhofar Season is one of the Sultanate of Oman’s most prominent tourism seasons, attracting visitors from across Oman and the Gulf region. The seasonal rise in travel demand requires comprehensive preparations covering security, traffic management, emergency response, and coordination among relevant authorities.
Major Mohammed al Hashami of the ROP highlighted the extensive arrangements in place, noting that security coverage has been reinforced along Sultan Said bin Taimur Road, which links Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with Dhofar Governorate .
“The Royal Oman Police has strengthened security presence along the road from Al Dakhiliyah to Dhofar via Sultan Said bin Taimur Road, with six strategically located security checkpoints. This is supported by police stations extending from Al Dakhiliyah to Dhofar, as well as security centres along the coastal route from Wilayat of Al Duqm to Dhofar. Traffic patrols have also been increased, with support from the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) and the Military and Security Medical City,” Al Hashami said.
The expanded deployment aims to enhance road safety, provide timely assistance to motorists, and ensure rapid response to emergencies. The network of checkpoints and police stations also provides reassurance to visitors travelling long distances to Dhofar during the peak season.
Traffic patrols continue to monitor road conditions, regulate traffic flow, enforce safety regulations, and respond quickly to accidents and vehicle breakdowns, helping maintain safe and uninterrupted travel across major routes.
The security plan also involves close cooperation between the ROP, the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority, and the Military and Security Medical City to strengthen emergency response capabilities. The coordinated approach enables swift action in medical emergencies, road incidents and other situations requiring immediate assistance.
Alongside field operations, the ROP continues to raise road safety awareness through its media channels, urging motorists to check their vehicles before travelling, follow speed limits, avoid fatigue during long journeys, and comply with safety instructions.
The comprehensive arrangements reflect Oman’s commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
Through strategic planning, enhanced field presence, and inter-agency coordination, authorities aim to ensure that Khareef Dhofar Season remains a safe and enjoyable experience while showcasing the governorate’s unique natural attractions.
