Oman’s population reaches 5.4 million by end of May 2026

 

Muscat: The population of the Sultanate of Oman reached 5,388,513 by the end of May 2026, marking an annual increase of 1.6 per cent compared to the same period in 2025, according to the latest Monthly Statistical Bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Muscat Governorate continued to account for the largest share of the population, with 1,538,312 residents, representing 28.6 per cent of the country's total population.

North al Batinah ranked second with a population of 945,647, accounting for 17.6 per cent, followed by South al Batinah with 589,152 residents, representing 10.9 per cent of the total population.

According to the NCSI, al Dakhiliyah Governorate came fourth with 574,354 residents, equivalent to 10.7 per cent of the total, while Dhofar ranked fifth with 535,623 residents, accounting for 9.9 per cent.

Among the remaining governorates, South al Sharqiyah recorded a population of 377,701 (7 per cent), followed by North al Sharqiyah with 322,914 (6 per cent).

Al Dhahirah registered 248,813 residents (4.6 per cent), while al Buraimi's population stood at 135,629 (2.5 per cent).

Al Wusta recorded a population of 64,566, representing 1.2 per cent of the total, while Musandam had 55,802 residents, accounting for 1 per cent of Oman's population, the bulletin said.
