Oman routed by Indonesia in U18 Asia Cup opener

Oman's U18 girls' national basketball team suffered a 127-6 defeat to Indonesia in their opening game of the FIBA U18 Women's Asia Cup 2026 Division B in Bangkok.
Indonesia took control from the opening tip, combining relentless defensive pressure with a high-tempo offence that disrupted Oman's rhythm and left few scoring opportunities.
The Indonesians dominated all four quarters, winning them 36-1, 34-2, 24-3 and 33-0 to secure a commanding opening victory.
The result highlighted the considerable difference in experience and preparation between the two teams. Oman are making their first appearance in the continental championship and have the youngest squad in the competition, with an average age of 15.8 years.
The national team also face a physical disadvantage against several of their opponents, particularly in terms of height and international match experience.
Despite the difficult start, the tournament represents an important stage in the team’s long-term development. Competing against stronger and more experienced sides will provide the young players with valuable exposure and help them develop their technical, physical and tactical abilities.
The coaching staff will look to improve the team’s overall performance in the remaining matches, strengthen its defensive organisation and reduce the scoring opportunities available to its opponents.
