Mahadha unveils first integrated fruit tree project

MAHADHA: The first integrated investment project specialising in fruit tree cultivation in Al Buraimi Governorate is being implemented in Zaroub area of the Wilayat of Mahadha, with an investment exceeding RO 171,000 rial Omani, as part of efforts to strengthen food security and promote sustainable agricultural development.
The project focuses on the cultivation, production and marketing of figs, lemons and mangoes, reflecting the growing partnership between the public and private sectors in utilising agricultural resources and enhancing investment opportunities in Oman’s farming sector.
Dr Ahmed bin Saif al Amri, Director-General of Agriculture and Water Resources in Al Buraimi Governorate, said the project has achieved more than 80 per cent completion across the cultivated areas, with planting activities progressing efficiently since they began in March 2025.
He noted that the project entered the production stage in October 2025, highlighting the effectiveness of its planning and the adoption of modern agricultural techniques to improve productivity and sustainability.
Spread across 30 feddans, the project has been designed to support crop diversity and meet local market demand. The cultivated areas currently include around 6 feddans for lemon trees, 5.5 feddans for fig cultivation and 2 feddans for mango trees.
Al Amri added that preparations are underway to develop an additional 7 feddans dedicated to fig cultivation, which will further expand production capacity and enhance the competitiveness of locally grown agricultural products.
The project represents a significant step towards strengthening Oman’s agricultural sector by encouraging private investment, increasing local food production and supporting national efforts to enhance food security and economic diversification. – ONA
