CPA raids illegal furniture manufacturing site in al Suwaiq

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) uncovered an illegal furniture manufacturing site in the Wilayat of al Suwaiq, where damaged and used materials were being used to produce furniture and sold to consumers as new products.

The operation was conducted by the Consumer Protection Office in Al Suwaiq, under the Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North al Batinah Governorate, in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

During the inspection, officials found that the facility was manufacturing household furniture using recycled and substandard raw materials, including damaged wood and used sponge, in violation of approved health and technical standards.

Authorities seized approximately 3,000 kilograms of damaged wood and used sponge, along with 50 finished and semi-finished furniture items that were prepared for distribution and sale.

The CPA said the seized materials and products have been confiscated, and legal action is being taken against those responsible for operating the unauthorised facility.

The authority stressed that the raid is part of its ongoing efforts to monitor markets, prevent fraudulent commercial practices, and ensure that consumers are protected from misleading products that may affect their safety and economic interests.
