Salalah: An 8-kilometere stretch of the Sultan Qaboos road from Al Dahariz Roundabout to Al Hisn Signals, opened to traffic, on Tuesday.
The move represents a major milestone in the project’s implementation and reflects the ongoing progress in completing one of the most prominent infrastructure projects in Dhofar Governorate.
The opening of this section is part of efforts to develop the road network and enhance the efficiency of the infrastructure. The road would improve traffic flow and increase safety on one of the most important main thoroughfares in the Wilayat of Salalah, given the increasing number of visitors and tourists during the Khareef Dhofar season. It will help reduce traffic congestion and facilitate movement between different areas.
The newly commissioned section includes three major intersections equipped with modern traffic lights, designed to the latest traffic safety standards. This enhances traffic management efficiency, facilitates vehicle movement, and improves connectivity between residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas on both sides of the road. It also reduces travel time and improves traffic flow.
The Sultan Qaboos road project is one of the strategic initiatives aimed at developing the transportation system and upgrading the infrastructure in the Wilayat of Salalah, keeping pace with the urban expansion, economic growth, and tourism activity witnessed in Dhofar Governorate.
Upon completion of all phases of Sultan Qaboos road, it is expected to enhance the efficiency of the road network, improve the quality of transportation services, and support sustainable development, in line with the governorate’s prominent tourism, economic, and developmental standing.
