Cool climate, events attract visitors to Al Hamra mountains

MUSCAT: As temperatures rise across the Sultanate of Oman during the summer season, Eastern Mountain in the Wilayat of Al Hamra is attracting visitors seeking cooler weather and outdoor experiences, supported by a range of seasonal activities designed to enhance the area's tourism appeal.
The summer programme was opened in Eastern Mountain and will continue until August 30. It offers a variety of cultural, entertainment, and community activities suitable at different age groups. The events include children's recreational activities, live stage programmes, family seating areas, dedicated spaces for local products and productive families, as well as opportunities for small and medium enterprises and entrepreneurs to showcase their businesses.
Visitors can also enjoy camping areas and mountain trails that provide an experience combining nature, recreation and community engagement, contributing to a more diverse tourism offering in the area. The growing activity at the site reflects wider efforts to strengthen tourism destinations across Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and increase their attractiveness to both visitors and investors.

Eng Sulaiman bin Hamad al Sunaidy, Director-General of Al Dakhiliyah Municipality, said, 'The governorate continues implementing a number of projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing tourism destinations, improving natural sites, and upgrading facilities and services in line with the increasing tourism movement and its contribution to economic development.' He noted that Eastern Mountain has witnessed increasing attention due to its natural and climatic advantages, as well as its connection with several tourism attractions across Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, helping diversify visitor experiences. Al Sunaidy added: 'One of the major ongoing projects is the Eastern Mountain Oasis project, which has exceeded 60 per cent completion and is expected to become a significant addition to tourism and recreational infrastructure upon completion.
According to him, current work includes the completion of service and investment facilities, an outdoor theatre, shaded areas, landscaping works and final finishing stages, while ensuring that development plans remain aligned with the mountainous nature of the site and environmental considerations. He further stressed that the project is expected to support local added value through the involvement of local institutions and companies, creating broader opportunities for small and medium enterprises and strengthening economic activity in the area.
As tourism activity continues to grow, Eastern Mountain is steadily strengthening its position as one of Al Dakhiliyah’s emerging destinations, combining natural attractions with development initiatives aimed at enriching the visitor experience.
