MUSCAT: Oman Air has launched its first direct flights to Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, and Singapore, expanding its international network as the national carrier seeks to strengthen connectivity with Central Asia and Southeast Asia.
The airline will operate two weekly flights between Muscat and Tashkent, while the Singapore service will operate four times a week throughout the year. The new routes form part of Oman Air's strategy to broaden its international network and reinforce Muscat International Airport's role as a regional aviation hub.
Wafa bint Jabr al Busaidi, Oman's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, said the Muscat-Tashkent route had been introduced in response to growing demand for travel between the two countries.
She said Uzbekistan's rich Islamic heritage, historical landmarks and four-season climate make it an attractive destination for family tourism, adding that the new service is expected to encourage greater tourism, trade and investment while strengthening economic and cultural ties.
The launch of the Tashkent route also reflects growing interest in Central Asia as both a tourism destination and an emerging business market.
Oman Air also inaugurated its Muscat-Singapore service, operating four weekly flights, providing direct connectivity to one of Asia's leading financial and aviation centres.
The airline said the Singapore route is expected to strengthen business and tourism links between the two countries while offering travellers easier access to Southeast Asia through one of the region's major air transport hubs.
The addition of Tashkent and Singapore continues Oman Air's network expansion as the carrier focuses on improving international connectivity, supporting the tourism sector and facilitating trade and investment in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040. — ONA
