CAIRO: Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash'shura, said that the Arab world is currently witnessing a period marked by shifting balances of power and accelerating political, economic and technological transformations that are reshaping many of the equations governing the international order.
In his address delivered during the Majlis Ash’shura’s participation in the Eighth Conference of the Arab Parliament and Speakers of Arab Councils and Parliaments, held in partnership with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo and attended by Speakers of Arab parliaments and legislative councils,Al Maawali stated that such major transformations should not be viewed solely as sources of challenges but also as opportunities to reassess priorities, strengthen national and Arab capabilities, and build more resilient and sustainable partnerships.
He noted that nations capable of understanding ongoing changes and anticipating the future are better positioned to safeguard their interests and create opportunities, whereas nations that rely solely on reactive approaches remain preoccupied with managing crises rather than shaping future pathways.
He added that the rapid developments witnessed across the region in recent months require careful reflection and an objective and responsible assessment based on a realistic understanding of surrounding developments and the lessons that can be drawn to enhance resilience and the capacity to address challenges.
The Chairman reaffirmed Oman’s welcome of the understanding and preliminary agreement on a ceasefire between the US and Iran, describing it as an important step towards containing tensions and preventing further escalation and conflict in the region.
