Al Shamsi wins Oman’s first silver at Tunis Para Athletics Grand Prix

Eman bint Taysir al Shamsi opened Oman’s campaign at the Tunis 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix with a silver medal in the women’s javelin, giving the national para athletics team a strong start in one of the season’s key international events.
Al Shamsi claimed second place after setting a new personal best of 13.70 metres, underlining her steady progress and the technical preparation carried out by the national team ahead of the competition. The result marked Oman’s first medal at the event and provided an early boost for the delegation as the championship continues in the Tunisian capital.
The Tunis meeting, officially held as part of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix series, brings together a wide field of international athletes and serves as an important platform for national teams seeking stronger performances, ranking points and qualification standards ahead of upcoming regional and continental competitions.
The Oman Paralympic Committee is represented in Tunisia by seven athletes: Mohammad bin Jameel al Mashaikhi, Taha bin Abdullah al Harrasi, Mohammed bin Harith al Qasmi, Talib bin Abdullah bin Musafer al Balushi, Qusai bin Abdullah al Rawahi, Rawan bint Ahmed al Hasani and Eman bint Taysir al Shamsi.
The official opening ceremony was attended by Dr Hilal bin Abdullah al Sinani, Oman’s Ambassador to the Republic of Tunisia, along with ambassadors and representatives of participating countries, Mohammed bin Abdullah al Hinai, head of Oman’s delegation, members of the Omani mission, and the technical and administrative staff.
The ceremony began with a parade featuring the names and flags of the participating countries, followed by addresses from the President of the Tunisian Paralympic Committee, the President of the International Paralympic Committee and a representative of Tunisia’s Ministry of Youth and Sports. Speakers welcomed the delegations and highlighted the role of the championship in promoting determination, sporting excellence and closer ties among athletes from around the world.
Speaking to the media, Dr Hilal bin Abdullah al Sinani said the Tunis Para Athletics Grand Prix carries major importance as a global platform for competition and for strengthening the values of willpower, challenge and sporting achievement.
He said the event also reflects the growing international attention given to para sports and the role such championships play in empowering athletes and showcasing their abilities on the international stage.
The ambassador expressed pride in Oman’s participation, saying it reflects the support given by the Sultanate of Oman to para athletes and its commitment to enabling them to represent the country with distinction at international events.
He also congratulated Eman bint Taysir al Shamsi on winning the silver medal and setting a new personal best in Oman’s opening appearance, wishing the rest of the national team success in the remaining competitions.
