LONDON: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MoAFWR) participated in the meetings of the International Grains Council (IGC) held in London. This participation reflects the ministry's commitment to enhancing its presence in international organisations and forums concerned with food security, as well as monitoring global developments in grain markets and essential food commodity markets.
The meetings addressed a number of topics related to developments in global grain markets, production forecasts, international trade trends, challenges associated with supply chains, climate change, and their impact on global food security.
This participation aims to strengthen international cooperation and facilitate the exchange of data and expertise among member states.
Such efforts support initiatives designed to ensure the stability of food markets, improve supply chain efficiency, and enhance the capacity to address global challenges and crises.
The meetings included a review of the latest reports and studies issued by the Council concerning global grain conditions and food markets. They also explored future trends in production, consumption and international trade.
These insights support the Sultanate of Oman's efforts to develop policies and programmes related to food security and to enhance the strategic stock of essential commodities. - ONA
